FREE Taco Today

Oh thank the Lord the World Series is finally over. That was just painful for everyone to watch except for Boston fans, of course. I'm not a Rockies' believer but geez already, give us a good series to watch.

Nonetheless, one gracious thing to come out of all of this is--FREE taco!!!!--courtesy of Red Sox rookie center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury (because he stole a base) America can snatch up one free taco per person. Actually I don't like tacos, but that's a sweet gesture from Taco Bell. More than likely the owners are hoping you buy the whole meal with that. In any case, enjoy!

That's my review of the World Series.

An Open Letter From GP Taylor Re: the movie "The Golden Compass."

In 2004 / 2005, Shadowmancer became a worldwide best seller, topping the New York Times list and the British book charts for 15 weeks. The reason why I wrote the book and all the others in the series was because of one man and the damage that his books were likely to do to the Christian Church.

Almost two years earlier I’d been at home in the vicarage, reading a copy of The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. I’d heard a great deal about the book. Newspapers and literary critics praised it. Christian groups wanted to burn it. I wanted to know what all the commotion was about.

Fifty pages into this award-winning, best-selling book for children twelve and up, here’s what I’d learned: God is a liar. God is senile. God is the enemy of humanity. I started to get mad.

Pullman’s book reworks Milton’s Paradise Lost so that Satan’s side are the heroes. Early on in the book, two rebel angels spill God’s great “secret”:

'The Authority, God the Creator, the Lord, Yahweh, El, Adoni, the King, the Father, the Almighty – those were the names he gave himself. He was never the creator. He was an angel like ourselves – the first angel, true, the most powerful, but he was formed of Dust as we are … He told all who came after him that he had created them, but it was a lie.' - (so Pullman said - notice he doesn't give God any other name such as Allah or Shiva - I wonder why?)

That’s just the beginning. Later the Authority is revealed as a senile, decrepit creature, the figurehead leader of Pullman’s Kingdom of Heaven. Pullman describes the Authority this way: “he was so old, and he was terrified, crying like a baby and cowering.” And, “The old one was uttering a wordless groaning whimper that went on and on, and grinding his teeth, and compulsively plucking at himself with his free hand.”

I became so angry while reading The Golden Compass that I had to put it down. What does it do to a child, I wondered, to be told that God is a senile, decrepit old man who is better off dead.

As dangerous theologically as I thought Pullman’s book was, I believed I had to do something about it. The disturbing thoughts about the effects of such a bestseller kept running through my mind that night, and for many nights afterwards. I realised the power his words would have on so many young people. I realise that God is powerful enough to defend Himself, but I became distressed at how these well written books would change people's viewpoint on God.

My fears were being realized. During the summer of 2000, the Pagan Federation in the United Kingdom announced that they had hired a youth officer to deal with all the inquiries they were getting from teenagers who wanted to become witches. The federation was “swamped” with calls, Andy Norfolk, the federation’s media officer, told the BBC. The reason Norfolk gave was the overwhelming popularity of television shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the Harry Potter books. He also said that the Christian church had failed to offer spirituality that appealed to teenagers, and pagans were now filling the gap because they offered “direct communication with the divine.”

From looking at the children’s bestseller lists, I could see that kids wanted to read about the supernatural. Book’s with supernatural themes – Harry Potter, Darren Shan’s vampire stories, The Golden Compass to name a few – sell in the millions. Most of them deal with questions of good and evil, death and immortality. But aside from CS Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia and of JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which both date to the 1950s, few books or films for children show a positive view of God.

I sat down and wrote Shadowmancer, a book that answers everything Pullman tries to destroy. A book that offers children hope in a God who is powerful and loving and able to intervene in the human life. The book was littered with pieces of scripture - hidden gems to bring life - God's word doesn't return void. Very soon after publication I was getting letters from young people. One said 'before I read your book I didn't believe in God - now I know I do...'

The battle had begun. Soon, Wormwood - Tersias - The Curse of Salamander Street, hit the book shelves, all dealing with the issues raised in Pullman's books. The Daily Telegraph in England said 'GP Taylor is a refreshing antidote to the piously preachy Mr. Pullman.'

Each of my books deals with the spiritual dimensions attacked by Pullman, giving a Christian alternative to his viewpoint. One character in Wormwood - Thaddeus Bracegirdle was even thought to be based on Pullman himself - though I would always deny it! They are written for a secular market - for the people who read Pullman books. They have earned me the title of 'The new CS Lewis.'

We are living in an age when so many things will come and try and destroy the Christian heritage of the American nation. We will have to fight to preserve it. The Golden Compass is yet another salvo against us. We must never forget that God is supreme and when the works of Pullman - like that of Voltaire are forgotten books, the Word will be still alive. I only hope that in writing Shadowmancer - Wormwood - Tersias and my other books that children and young people will get an alternative view of a great God.

I would urge you to see the film and judge for yourself, what we must not do is fall into the trap of book burning and blockading movie theaters. As Christians it is our duty to be people of integrity and interact boldly with that which could affront our faith.

With all my Blessings.
GP Taylor.

Ink Me!

Ah 'tis a horrible thing to run out of ink. And prices are to scream at! Nonetheless, one cannot get any work done without ink in the printer. Lady Gatekeeper has an abundant of those contraptions. As a matter of fact there are four printers in the office, two fax machines and a copy machine. Plus one device that likes to do it all. Go figure. So as to not make the Gatekeeper's life a little more hectic she likes to shop online. Click on the Cartridge Finder, get the best prices through PriceGrabber and life is nothing less than blissful. I mean to say, where else would one go?

AAA Declared It Totalled

It took a while for the AAA people to believe that the damage on the car was done by the Santa Ana Winds. Impossible they said. That kind of damage would mean the winds had to be around 90mph. Ah, duh Yeah!!! It was around 50mph out of the sand storm.

In any case, it's a good thing we left half the desert in the car for proof. I told my dad not to clean it out so they would see. They saw! There was a couple of inches of sand, glass and little tiny sand pebbles that scratch at your skin. If you tried to pick any of it up by hand--you bleed. This was the stuff that swirled around Mom and Dad for two hours and they're still coughing it up. Dad finally got some rest today.

Back to the story of AAA and insurance dilemmas. After eight hours of trying to see if the car was drivable they decided to total that puppy (or Toyota mini van, if you will)--two windows missing, a caved-in door, sand in the interior including door panels, sand in the air conditioning vents, sand in the radio and CD player, sand in the steering wheel (which could not turn) and finally sand in the engine, radiator and everything else that we used to call a car.

Final total damage--$10,000 plus change. So around 5:00 PM Dad drives up in a new car. Swweeeettttt!

Christian Trend Setters

Well the Gatekeeper thought this was rather interesting to talk about--Christians sharing knowledge with one another about what goes out on the market. Any market I suppose, but more than likely focusing on the faith-based one. If one likes movies, for instance, and would like to influence others to see a particular film (or not see) then joining ChatterJam.com would be beneficial as writing a review would greatly influence others one way or the other.

Furthermore, if receiving products before it is released to the public is of interest to you then ChatterJam.com, as one can imagine, would be the right place for you. You shall be called Jammers from this time forward. Jammers, mind you, will have the inside scoop on the many treasures (goodies free and otherwise) and their honest opinion I hear might very well shape the future of certain products before they hit the market place. Come jam with us.

My Squidoo Lens

I am not quite sure why I made a Squidoo lens yesterday, but I must say it was rather a lot of fun. I guess if I can find yet another community of online friends I would hope to interest more people to read this blog and especially mom's blog. In any case the lens is a little more focused on writing and how to make a living with it. It sure looks pretty and I am attempting to interact by joining groups with others who might have similar goals and whatnot. At least I make a little bit from their Google Adsense which, for some reason, I cannot do with this blog. Nonetheless, it seems my mugshot is finding its place on the internet--am not sure if this is good or bad. We shall see.

The Gac Treatment

Well, last time I checked I could have sworn that gac was a gooey substance my kids tried to make in science class. It apparently has morphed into R.G. Skin Revitalizer. You should probably check this out for yourself as I'm sure it has nothing to do with 7th grade science projects that went wrong.

R.G. (red gac) is a dietary supplement. Indeed, in addition to applying sunscreen, which we need here in the desert, one can make this a part of one's daily diet. It's an oil extract from the tropical super-fruit Gac which apparently is rich in carotenoid antioxidants.

So here's the scoop on that bright red fruit. It grows as large as a cantaloupe and on a vine mind you in countries like Vietnam and tropical Asia. I guess people there have always known of its medicinal value as these are grown in people's back yards.

My grandma knew of such things and this kind of wisdom probably carried her and her children through WWII. Gac fruit helps boost the immune system among other things. Furthermore, it has been said that their nutritional value keeps the skin, we so desperately need to keep our skeleton and other parts on the inside, extremely healthy. Here's to your health.

The Neighborhood Chronicles: Winds of the Santa Ana's

Dare we tell it once again? It's a harrowing tale, to say the least. The desert sand has shifted, about twenty feet into the air. Visibility is zero and we all should stay in our castles. The local college has much damage and will not re-open till Wednesday.

The fragile roses succumbed to the gales of the Santa Ana's as did the apple tree. Nonetheless, it is the human toll we are worried about as the coastal lands of California burns the inland empire must weather the sand storms.

Here is part, but only part of the story . . .

The winds were extremely volatile this Sunday. Nevertheless the kids and Lady Gatekeeper did not want to miss out on church. We, of course, had no idea what the Santa Ana Winds could do in the desert. Visibility was zero for a few miles here and there, with breaks in between. We pressed on. The worship and the Word was exactly what Princess S., Squire Layne and Mom Gatekeeper needed.

In any case, on any given Sunday the three of us would have remained in the SD area in order for Squire L. to attend D-group at spend more time later with High School group in the evening. This however, would have meant that the journey home would not have been undertaken till around 8:30pm.

A still small voice advised us to go home right after first service. It saved our lives. That same still small voice told us to travel on the 215 instead of continuing on the 60. Again, it saved our lives though we did not know it at the time. On that journey I thought of how small my faith must be. After all, if I had faith like a mustard seed, I could part these winds or even bring them to an abrupt halt. But wait . . . I asked the Lord to lead us home and everywhere we drove the sun lit our path through the sand storm.

In any case, around 5:00pm Father and Mother had not made it back to their castle yet. Lady Gatekeeper called to find out where they were; at a friend's house was the reply. "Stay there for the night," 'twas my opinion. "Do not make the journey home." The winds were critical, so to speak. The back yard was even lost from our sight. Ho did the children of Israel survive in the wilderness/desert for 40 years? I shall never complain again.

Mother and Father decided to make the journey home as SD was not experiencing any winds. Alright then, let us shorten the story. The desert sands were lifted about 20 feet into the air, one might say. No lights to light the darkened streets. Their vehicle was tossed about like a child's toy till they could go no further. Two windows of their mini-van shattered and were carried away by the storm. Some glass shards scattered inside.

Mother found it hard to breathe, even more difficult to speak. Father had already turned into a pillar of sand but he persevered. Mother was crying over the telephone and we began to pray. At times she could only call on His name. What a powerful name.

The left back door buckled beneath the wind's power but somehow stayed attached. One could hear mother screaming over the air waves . . . then, a voice, "Follow me!!!!" A firefighter had found them, put a blanket over them. Again, "Follow me!!!" They did. They followed the light on the fire truck. God??? Lord??? She cried. "I'm here." That's what she heard. Mom started to pray for the people in vehicles behind them. They all followed. 5mph. When they finally came home their young squire was waiting for them in the wind outside the garage doors.

They were two pillars of fine sand, red clay, and shattered glass. The car is totaled, perhaps not, and the engine died when safely parked inside. They prayed that everyone behind them came out of the harrowing storm as best as they could. We shall see.

Why do good people go through bad times? Ah, my friend, to show that God is indeed in the storm with us.

We are cleaning our house from sand and getting ready for more winds and you, my friends, could pray for all those affected by the fires and the storms. Blessings.

A Conversation In Hell

The second Chapter of The Warriors is almost ready for publication at Associated Content. Therefore, I would invite you to read the first conversation right here. It went something like this . . .

*******************************

The Whisperer and the nine-foot Abaddon are standing side by side like father and son. The fire stirs hot and angry within them. Never before has either felt pure evil in this form ― life created for the sake of wickedness. It is eternal. Abaddon (known in Canaan as The Destroyer) is healed and he will waste no time to exploit his new powers.

The Whisperer glares at the Dark Lord of the South River with nothing but contempt. The Dark Lord cracks his ancient bones of his neck as he circles Pernicious. “I had no desire to see you healed,” he says.

“Be careful, my lord, I am a Whisperer after all. You do not know the depth and width of my powers. Can you make the Canaanite hear what is not spoken or see what is not there? Can you sway him to turn from his righteous ways and give up his place in the heavens? No, my lord, you cannot.”

Abaddon will not stomach the ranting of the Whisperer and demands an end to his chatter. “Lord of the South River, go your way,” he snaps. “We are done with you.”

The Dark Lord bows slowly and takes his leave. He is gone before the Whisperer has a chance to speak again.

******************************

The gatekeeper hopes you will read the whole conversation which can be found right here.

Oh, There's My Mail

I came upon a little bit of news today after wondering what had happened to the packages from the UK. After all, Lady Gatekeeper has been waiting patiently for a special delivery. Mr. Author Friend, GP Taylor, took a breather from his book tour ( I believe that's what is keeping him busy right now) to let me know that the UK is going through a postal strike. That ought to mess up the system a little. Imagine that--the royal mail will not go through.

Shame on me for not keeping up with this little bit of news. All this to say, sadness upon sadness, the much awaited "Mariah Mundi" will not find his way into my mailbox. We shall have to wait a little longer. So bloggie friends, pardon the wait but patience is a virtue, you know. Or something to that effect.

Furthermore, Lord Taylor (Gatekeeper language), has had some difficulty receiving his fan mail and poor Mariah is finding it a tad bit hard to travel to the book stores. This too shall pass, one would suppose. Nonetheless, kudos to the Scarborough postman for delivering a letter addressed only to: GP Taylor, Author. Bravo.

In conclusion I would like to warn every reader that many forged autographed books has surfaced on the internet. For your autographed copy of "Mariah Mundi" just go straight to the source at Mr. G's own website.

Well, there you have it. Pray that the media will cover Mariah Mundi soon. There is resistance because of is allegory. No worries--the Lord (as in God) will have His say and black listing will soon be delivered from MM. Do not lose heart. And with that we bid you all a fair evening.

AND I Talk At MyLot the Most

I've posted about MyLot before but I just wanted to mention it again since I've really enjoyed my time in that online community while making a few extra dollars. Sorry, that was a very long opening sentence.

In any case, it's ever so easy to make payout and all you have to do is start a discussion. For example my latest question was, "Is There Anyone Who Hasn't Read The Harry Potter Series Besides Me?" which received 37 comments so far. It's that easy because it's really quite an active community.

You get paid for starting a new discussion and for commenting on other's discussions and you even get paid for uploading pictures. Sweet! To be honest you kind of forget about the money you're making because you get so involved with your friends over there. Well, that's my take on things at MyLot. If you would like to join us please click on my link here. Yes, you might have guessed, you can also earn when you recruit someone. It's all good. Hope to see you at all those network sites. Life is sweeter with friends.

Time Will Tell

It has long been a tradition in the GateKeeper's castle to tell the time by the rising of the sun or the setting thereof. Not something they might recommend at grandfather clocks at 1-800-4clocks at this point of our history. Nonetheless, Lady Gatekeep has always wanted a clock so extravagant and so precise that time would never be lost again. A nice gesture, indeed!

The castle has a few columns, arched beams and many curves. There inside a hollow column, facing the double French doors, she should set the TimeKeeper she has always wanted--a rather romantic Ridgeway Majorca Grandfather Clock to be precise. This Grandfather is very tall and slender with hand painted dials. Nice! Its soft dual melodies will fill the castle with peace and as darkness falls one can silence the music, if so desired.

There are new clocks to choose from that will cheer your home as well as those Grandfather Clocks of years gone by and of every style imaginable. Find out about the marvelous different materials used to create these masterpieces and join the discussion over the new versus the old. And please, do take your time.

Honeymoon???

No, no the Gatekeeper is not going on her honeymoon. Perhaps in the near future. One can only hope. Nonetheless, Lady Gatekeeper did write about Wadigi Island at Associated Content. Mmmm, must be something in her subconscious. What else should she write about? Go figure. In any case, her dear Cousin S. is headed for a glorious week in paradise amongst the Fiji Islands, with her soon-to-be betrothed. She therefore was the inspiration behind this article. We do hope you will enjoy "Honeymooning On Wadigi Island."

The Solar Decathlon

Now here, the Gatekeeper believes, is something one can truly sink their teeth into, so to speak. This October a good amount of college, or university students as you might want to call them, shall be given the chance to make a most positive difference in this world. All in all, twenty universities will compete to design, build and operate a completely solar-powered house. Quite the competition, I say! The BP Solar Decathlon will take place from October 11 to the 19th.

Yes, BP has decided to sponsor this special occasion as they try to honor their commitment to discovering more cost effective and clean energy solutions for everyday living. The castle will soon be in good hands. It's a good start, my friends. You can review past winners as well as the progress of each team entering this year's competition at their Solar Decathlon blog. Members of teams will keep you informed of their daily happenings, I'm sure.

There is also quite an extraordinary amount of information involving BP and the green curve. For instance, there's a little gas station in the middle of LA's bustling metropolis that is more or less a living lab. Do visit and find out what all the fuss is about. Move up a notch on the green curve and indulge in the information available to find out what it is you can implement into your own life.

So there you have it, enjoy the competition. Lend your support to these young students building a better future, by visiting their blog. A toast to the winner!

Boys Of Summer And Fifteen Minutes Of Fame

Lady G. at A Knight's Lady will love this. The date and time of this Dodger game is lost to me but apparently captured forever in Dodgers Magazine, Volume 14 number 3. Wow, that sounded a tad bit too business like, sorry. We bought tickets to the bleachers section because Shawn Green was our favorite player. He signed Lord Spanky's baseball and jersey some time ago and took pictures. Just a sweet guy. Hopefully New Yorkers have been kind to him. Though after the Mets meltdown this year, who knows.

In any case, there we were in the bleachers when the enemy launched a deep fly ball which seemed to be headed right for us. Of course, it never reached us as Shawn snagged the fly ball against the padded wall. Princess S. is the one standing. She was quite perturbed that Shawn caught the ball. "Mine, mine, mine!"

Mr. Professional Photographer snapped a nice picture and our happy little family was captured right along with a Dodger moment. Our place in history is set. LOL. I guess that was our fifteen minutes of fame. Or was it??

Lord Spanky Layne is in the trailer for Ben Stiller's "The HeartBreak Kid" opening up tomorrow, October 5th. He actually now has 30 minutes of fame. Layne is the boy splashing water on Michelle Monaghan (the beach scene). He's in slow motion, hehehe. It was a fun day filming on Malibu Beach with Michelle, who's a sweetheart, and Ben Stiller who's well . . . Ben Stiller. Not so good news for cast and crew--the reviews are in and they're pretty bad. Michelle, however, received a very good review for her part. If you're interested Associated Content published my article called Notes From Working On The Set Of The Heartbreak Kid, or something like that.

At any rate, it's almost Friday, Lord SL has a big test in US History today and he wishes it was already Friday. He is trying to hide. Unfortunately, the castle is not that big and all the secret tunnels (except the one to the torture chamber) have been blocked. Stay tuned . . . or not.

Cottages For The Holidays

Do you not know that the Gatekeeper's heart belongs in places such as these? To rest her weary soul in a borders holiday cottage is what she dreams of. She was born to be there. The Borders is rich with history--ah yes, those feudal wars between the Brits and the Scotts. The countryside is decorated with castles, more than any other part of the United Kingdom. Dreamy!

The Borders will not boast of large company hotels only quaint little cottages, a Bed and Breakfast if you will. This particular cottage, pictured to the right, has its own walled garden, four cozy bedrooms, kitchen with a dining area, comfortable lounge and one can even bring their horse . . . I mean, your pets. There are only six of these treasures, so book in advance, my friends. You will not want to stay anywhere else next time you visit the UK. Enjoy!

Guideposts: Brett And Deanna Favre

Okay, I have no idea how many records Brett is going to break but is he not one of the toughest players ever? This guy just keeps coming back year after year. In one of the pre-season games they started the back-up QB who is said to be ready to take over when Brett retires. Only thing is, this guy might be in his thirties by the time Brett retires.

Nonetheless, even though I enjoy watching the Green Bay Packers play (second only to the Seattle Seahawks) I adore hearing stories about the man he is off the field. Now here's an athlete kids can look up to. The man knows how to love. Yeah he does, so check out Brett and Deanna's story in Guideposts. It's a great little magazine if you need a little bit of inspiration in your life. Or hey, write your own story and send it in. They have writer's guidelines posted at their site. Enjoy!

Faucets For The Castle

If one would sell the castle, would it not be wise to purchase new devices such as bathroom faucets? Most pleasing are the fixtures from Grohe, I would imagine. Add a little style is a job well done. And for all you brave souls who need a challenge, there is guide at faucet dot com, so the work to be done is, shall we say, less challenging? There are many styles to choose from, therefore, choose well. And would you believe, for your convenience, a fast delivery is ensured. It is very stylish to stay clean in the castle. Enjoy!

Of Stories And Articles

Here's the Gatekeeper's newest article about working with her young squire on the set of CSI: Miami. It was actually a post here on my blog. I vamped it a little, added a few more details and submitted it to Associated Content. I retitled it "Body Double For A Day: Working On The Set Of CSI Miami." I know, they like long titles over there.

If you like to read other articles and stories by yours truly you could really boost my writing career, at least the one online. Of course, you could submit your own articles and make a decent living with it. Join us here. See you there.

Logo Design Contest

Yes, my friends it is once again contest time. For this occasion we are calling upon all our design oriented readers. After all it is a new logo you shall be creating, or should I say, a better logo for the Ford Blue Oval Scholars. Here we would like to mention that The Ford Blue Oval Scholars program is a scholarship program sponsored by the Ford Motor Company Fund. Though perhaps it was already known to most readers. In any case, one shall not want to miss out on this contest.

All the guidelines for the logo design contest is explained in detail at Ford's own domain. To make things a little more interesting one must submit both a color as well as a black and white version of one's finished art work. And, of course, my friends always keep it clean and original. Three entries per designer is allowed. That should up your chances a tad bit.

Have I told of the prizes yet? First place would be the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium. This prize has a value of $1700. Other rewards includes $300 worth of design software, and music cards to download your favorite tunes.

There you have it, dear friends, the deadline will be November 1, 2007. Get those creative juices flowing, one might say. Winners shall be notified by email, telephone or registered mail. Blessings to all.

The Book Shelf

I have been trying to catch up on my reading since I promised three most excellent authors a review of their book. I am almost done with Frank Viola's "God's Ultimate Passion," which you can purchase right here. He's been most patient with me and I promise to get that review done before the end of this weekend. There you have it in writing. One can also interact with Frank at ShoutLife. Drop him a message or leave a comment. Tell him The Gatekeeper sent you. Here's me at ShoutLife.

Next we have the most distinguished British author, Sir G.P. Taylor's (not quite a Sir yet), to discuss. Well, at least his latest release, "Mariah Mundi." Would you like to see the Grand Hotel where Mariah was sent to work? You would? Here. In any case, the good Reverend was touring through the many schools with Mariah by his side or in his briefcase, last I heard. We shall find out if he is back and report on his adventure. A class act, Mr. Taylor is indeed. Secret from the Gatekeeper: We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of a few books to distribute to lucky bloggers. More on that later.

Lastly, my buddy, friend and pal, Patrick will patiently wait the release day of his first published book, It's a Dance: Moving with the Holy Spirit. TaDa!!! Congrats, my friend. Release date for P's book is November 1, 2007. I received my pre-publication in the mail today. Mmmmmm. Will review this masterpiece asap. In the meantime you can communicate with Patrick over on ShoutLife also. Watch out, he's very witty. See you all there or here.
