Writers, Leaders And Followers

Last Saturday evening I became so weepy, I worried about myself. I'm such a loner and I love hiding in my cave. After all, the garden feeds me, the pool cools me, the house keeps me and the Dish entertains me. I have books to read, articles to write and a whole season of Stargate Atlantis to catch up on. I'm such a loner. So Sunday, I tell you, was hard to face.

Church wasn't the problem (except that it's a 90 mile trip). Sitting in the back row is always safe for me. I've been asked to pick up the bass again and play in the worship band. Oh, I wonder if I still can.

After church, I had lunch with Patrick O. whose brilliance far outshines mine. I've learned, however, that my lack of education is of no concern to friends like him. Sweet! We had wonderful conversation about how to get our church to return to the vision we had in the beginning. Is it possible? I would say so.

We discussed his soon to be released book of which I hope to get a pre-pub copy in order to review it on this blog. We shall do our best to get my grubby little hands on that one. He's very excited and so are we all. Congrats again, my friend. I'm right behind ya. I hope.

In any case, after lunch we headed for familiar coffee house to meet another friend who Patrick doesn't get to see often. There we talked for a few more hours. Can the church return to its original vision? Wow, we sure have a lot to say about that. I was almost too late for my next meeting.

Now, I'm not one for leading anything . . . therefore I find it quite amusing why God would choose me to lead something. But when He speaks I will follow His directions. Let's hope I follow them correctly. I might need help. HELP! More on this in future post.

Ah yes indeed, I know why I was so weepy. My friends are too smart, my church is too far, and how can I lead these people when I'm only a good follower?

I read what I'm about to share back in 1999. I liked it so much I kept it. Who knows why. Maybe for such a time as this...

GOD CALLED YOU....

There are many reasons why God shouldn't have called you.
But don't worry. You're in good company.

Moses stuttered.
David's armor didn't fit.
John Mark was rejected by Paul.
Timothy had ulcers.
Hosea's wife was a prostitute.
Amos' only training was in the school of fig-tree pruning.
Jacob was a liar.
David had an affair.
Solomon was too rich.
Jesus was too poor.
Abraham was too old.
David was too young.
Peter was afraid of death.
Lazarus was dead.
John was self-righteous.
Naomi was a widow.
Paul was a murderer.
So was Moses.
Jonah ran from God.
Miriam was a gossip.
Gideon and Thomas both doubted.
Jeremiah was a bullfrog (just kidding); he was depressed and
suicidal.
Elijah was burned out.
John the Baptist was a loudmouth.
Martha was a worry-wart.
Mary may have been lazy.
Samson had long hair.
Noah got drunk.
Did I mention that Moses had a short fuse?
So did Peter, Paul - well, lots of folks did.

But God doesn't require a job interview.
He doesn't hire and fire like most bosses,
because He's more our Dad than our Boss.
He doesn't look at financial gain or loss.

He's not prejudiced or partial, not judging, grudging,
sassy, or brassy, not deaf to our cry, not blind to our need.
As much as we try, God's gifts are free.
We could do wonderful things for wonderful people and
still not be. . .

Wonderful.

Satan says, "You're not worthy."
Jesus says, "So what? I AM."
Satan looks back and sees our mistakes.
God looks back and sees the cross.

He doesn't calculate what you did in '98. It's not even
on the record.

Sure, there are lots of reasons why God shouldn't have
called us. But if we are magically in love with Him,
if we hunger for Him more than our next breath, He'll
use us in spite of who we are, where we've been, or
what we look like!

I pray that as Christians, we will step out of our
limitations into the unlimitable nature of who God is.

Then our passion for God and our passion to communicate
to Him will make mince-meat of our limitations.

Wow! I'm speechless. I'll print this and stick it my Bible. Thanks, Lady G.
