What Is It?

Arwin and Shamee keep eating our plants. They are trying to unearth every tree we plant and they are building something near the air conditioning thingys. And then there's this thing. It keeps growing and growing. We don't feed it and it gets very little water. Does anyone know? Whatever it is, we will not call it a weed.

Wild growth of unplanned plants is so much fun. I have no idea what your vine is, but my hubby and I have several mysteries in our yard. Some are seasonal--one patch, for instance, comes back evey winter and spring, produces lovely white blossoms on green stalks, and dies off every summer. Others that started as simple weeds are now shade-producing trees. We have lived here for 25 years, so we have seen a noticeable shift toward a more jungle-like environment.

One self-germinator I can actually identify: Somehow a mandarin tree has sprouted among the jade plants near our front door. Probably a critter of some kind dropped the seeds years ago. The fruit looks lovely but is completely inedible. Every year I gaze at the orange globes with longing, and every year I open one up with eternal hope that this season I might enjoy a sweet treat. But it's only teasing me: Every year I pucker up again and have to throw the remainder of the mandarin into the trash. Still, they're lovely to look at. . . .

Oh that is so funny. Maybe it's the beginning of Macadamia Nut tree. One can only hope. Thanks Jane. Hehehee.

Jane - I wonder if you sweeten the ground with a bag of sugar??? - If that doesn't work try Nutrasweet...

Gatekeeper - I have the same plant that pops up every year in a pot that is only watered by the spring rains. Sorry I cannot help you with the name. - I have no problem calling it a weed but I don't think I'm a romantic. At least not as much as you seem to be.

Aaaah, my friend, you put a smile on my face. I am going to let this "weed" grow and maybe it will blossom into a graceful willow tree. Wow, this is not good. I am a romantic.

Looks like some neglected weed.

But Pikkel, you of all people, would surely love my neglected weed. But I tell ya it's a flower waiting to reveal itself, or something like that.
