Graduation 2010: The Journey to Grad Night!

Six in the morning and like clock work I'm out of bed. Wait . . . no need . . . school's out. Furthermore, he's a senior. High school is over. This is graduation day. Wow! I knew he would get there.

The weather was mild that day. A cool 70 degrees or so. That's pretty cold for the desert in June. We were worried it would get too hot since graduation ceremonies would be held in the famous Ramona Bowl. It's the pride and historical joy of our little town.

I ironed his flowing, red graduation gown. We waited for his dad to arrive, but traffic wasn't on his side. Original plans were changed. I drove the Prince to the canyon which was now lined with cars and people walking up the mountain in lieu of the overcrowded parking lots. The Princess was late, she had also lost her cell phone so we had no communication. With no time to spare I had to drive back home (after dropping off one of the Prince's friend) and pick up big sis. She had just traveled over 100 miles to witness her little brother graduate.

No parking available we had to park down the mountain and hike up. Only two steps were taken when a school bus stopped and the nice driver asked if we needed a ride. Did he need to ask? Mr. Pastor then was found walking along the trail, as was Mr. Pastor In Training and consequently hopped on the bus with us.

Inside the Bowl, we were separated as there was no more seating available. We squeezed next to an angry sort of momma who told us to get lost. The Princess and I obliged and found a better seat four rows in front of her.

It got colder and colder, till we could hardly talk and were very happy when all the speeches and flying of beach balls and tortillas were over. The white doves were released, the 2010 balloons flitted into the blue sky and the graduates stampeded up the canyon, while Nickelback began to play Hemet High's graduation song. Did I mention it was cold?

Here's the Prince, the Princess and their Dad. It was a good day. Dinner at Applebee's and then it was off to Grad Night for the newly graduate. Party from Midnight to four in the morning. He went with friends but not before Lady Gatekeeper got to remind him, "Be good, make wise choices, have fun, be safe and smart!"

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

Glad you were frozen rather than baked.

Congratulations Graduate!

Your daughter seems to be inheriting your long distance driving gene.

Yeah, she visits quite often.
